Common Grounds: Good & Proper Tea

Common Grounds: Good & Proper Tea

Good & Proper Tea started with a 1974 Citroen Van, 372 Kickstarter backers, and a vision to bring back real tea to the streets of London. Now Emilie and the Good & Proper team have a flagship ‘London Tea Bar’ in Farringdon that dishes up Assams, Oolongs and a whole lot more. They even stock a few cold brew cans just in case you're desperate for that coffee kick!

Sleek wooden lines, wall plants galore and ‘Steampunk’ brewing machines (techy af - see below) mean that the places oozes a sense of calm and quality, away from the hustle of Leather Lane. They also let you smell and sample the teas before you order them which adds that extra level of luxe.

You thought tea was just for cold weather? Think again. If Sandows are the kings of cold brew coffee, then Good & Proper are the queens of Ice Teas. Their annual spring Big Iced Teaser event sees weird and wonderful ice tea creations with the winner's recipe adopted on the menu for the summer ahead. Cafe Manager Alita talked us through the current menu before whipping up a tangy Hibiscus Sour alongside a smokey Yunnan, Orange and Ginger number to keep us cool and refreshed.

The London Tea bar is also home to all sorts of awesome evening events. Kombucha masterclasses, BYO terrariums and their ‘Cup of Tea With’ series which has recently featured Nimko Ali, Dolly Alderton and Lucy Siegle.

If you’re in Brockley or out and about on the music festival circuit, you might see 'Watson' the Tea Van cruising about. But if not, make sure you pop into the Good & Proper haven on Leather Lane next time you’re nearby - tell 'em we sent you!
